I hope that you are not shocked when I tell you this, but if you are depending on television for your accurate nutrition information, you may be led in the wrong direction. Food is a big business. With the food industry lobbyist, bad scientific studies and outdated food guidelines, it’s no wonder that we we are all confused and frustrated. We are told to eat one thing and, in the next breath, are told not to eat that but something else. I don’t know about you, but it makes me want to scream! I spend much of my time as a nutrition professional trying to help my clients unlearn incorrect nutrition information. I now have a very helpful tool. Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? is a book written by Dr. Mark Hyman, MD, that landed on our bookshelves a few weeks ago. It is the perfect handbook on what to eat. Simply put, what we should eat is real, whole food! If the food comes from the earth, eat it! If the food is made in a plant, don’t! This is what I have been telling my clients for years. Dr. Hyman eloquently walks us through food groups and gives us the real scientific-based information and debunks the myths. I highly recommend Dr. Hyman’s book to clear up the confusion and set the truth straight about the food you eat.
